Laser Target Alarm Clock, Bandai Gun Oclock Black
[256-581402]

3,900 JPY
(43.40 USD)

Neat concept but the price (and the amount of batteries used) aren't necessarily worth it. This being the 21st century, I would expect that something that touts allowing you play laser tag with it, would at least have a normal backlight on the clock. It runs on batteries, so putting a permanent backlight on would consume more power, but seeing as this is a clock and not a watch, no backlight makes it kinda useless unless you're planning on putting a spotlight over it or something. I'd rather replace batteries more often than, even in a lit room not be able to see the time on the clock because the display is dark, as are the numbers. Second, both the clock and gun take batteries, 6 in all if memory serves. I understand that yes it is remote-controlled essentially, and that even $400 gaming systems' controllers still take batteries, but...

The game itself is kinda fun, you have to draw on the target, it counts down, you fire, your time is recorded, etc. The voice on the clock is very lively and humorously Engrishy. The font the clock uses, the red backlighting and the form factor/design is nice. Do these things offset the fact that this costs $40? Not really. It's an interesting conversation piece or novelty, but beyond that there's really not much to warrant buying this over another clock whose face you can see on a regular basis without walking across the room and pressing a button.
